marijuana possession
According to U.S. federal law, the possession of marijuana is an extremely serious crime. And whether it is intended for personal use or for the intent of distribution, getting mixed-up with this highly popular drug could change your life forever. Marijuana is considered a Schedule 1 drug, and it is frequently associated with much abuse and addiction.

Some states, such as Colorado and Washington, have changed courses and have recently decriminalized marijuana, thus making it popular with persons of all ages. And for these jurisdictions, the rules for its regulation have opened-up a new set of issues for the states to deal with.

But here in Texas, marijuana is still an illegal substance whose mere existence has created much discussion among many legal experts and numerous police precincts. And an even wider goal for some politicians in the legislature has been to ultimately make marijuana legal here in the Lone Star State.

Alexis Bortell of Rowlett is closely watching this legislative session with zeal. Alexis, who is 9-years-old, has been diagnosed with epilepsy. She has only found relief from her suffering through medical marijuana, specifically oils and tinctures from the cannabis plant. She and her parents hope the Texas legislature will soon legalize medical marijuana so that her father, Dean, will no longer have to get the drug from Colorado where she can obtain it legally.

The Bortells realize that Texas has some of toughest marijuana laws in the United States. They also realize that while just taking their daughter out-of-state to Colorado to obtain medical marijuana could result in severe criminal punishments, it’s a risk they feel they’ll just have to take.

Most concerned feel that it is highly unlikely that Texas will ever legalize marijuana in any form, so it could make for some soul-searching from the general public. Political forces not withstanding, it is never an option to discount what a lawmaking group of individuals could decide upon. But, some members seem to be listening in on this complex issue.

But most of us will never have to deal with this legal and moral issue. Tell that to the Bortells, however. And if anyone in any other walks of life have to deal with the legal dilemma of drug possession, use, or sales, find a San Antonio attorney who specializes in drug crimes and who is completely versed in the laws of your particular state.
